Cost Share Programs
SWCDs and NRCS offer a variety of cost share programs to help make conservation efforts more affordable.

Partners for Conservation Cost share
Each year the SWCD is given state funds to distribute through cost-share for certain conservation practices. These are practices that provide benefit to the environment, whether that be through conservation of natural resources like soil and water or promoting biodiversity through planting habitat.
Practices that we offer cost share include grassed waterways, cover cropping, no-till, well sealing, and filter strips. We may evaluate other projects on a case-by-case basis.
If you are considering implementing one of these projects, we encourage you to apply for cost-share. We can offer up to 75% of total estimated cost of project after the project receives board approval. Our cost estimates are based on NRCS data.
This year we will be holding an open sign-up period to determine which projects will be funded for 2026. This period is open from September 15-December 15 of 2025. Please return completed applications to the office.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Heather VanTilburg at heather.vantilburg@usda.gov.

Tax Incentive Filter Strip Program
As an incentive for installing protective vegetative filter strips on land adjacent to surface or ground water sources, landowners may receive a reduced property tax assessment of 1/6th of its value as cropland. Landowners can expect to save about $1 to $25 per acre in taxes depending on soils and local tax rates.
Vegetative filter strip design and certification assistance is available from the Soil and Water Conservation District office.
